How Weed and Sex Almost Took Over My Life

Pic Source: 303magazine.com

Before my life with Jesus, weed was my best friend.

No, seriously. It really was.

My life was as pot-filled as it could get!

People in my public life didn’t know about my heavy weed usage and I never felt the need to stop. After all, I was pulling a 3.5 GPA, a good job, and taking care of myself. So, if I had it all going on for me-what’s the big deal if I hit a few puffs after work? I mean…it’s not like the Bible says it’s a sin right?

Wrong! …Dead Wrong!

When God warns us against doing something, it’s not to hinder us-it’s to protect us. Every time I smoked, the habit always managed to attach me to someone who God didn’t want in my life. This “someone” usually ended up being a guy or friend who didn’t have my best interest at heart. The guy and I would like each other, have sex, and I’d end up being strung along.

Like I mention in my upcoming book, I Believe in God, Now What? , this pattern of decisions repeated itself until I got raped and finally began to understand what God was trying to keep me from.

God doesn’t just care about our public lives, how independent we are, or how much we can pay our bills. His focus is on our hearts.

How did smoking weed show God my heart wasn’t pure?

Simple. When I smoked, it proved to Him I was disobedient. It showed God that I wanted church, but not Him. I was only willing to love Him to the point that I didn’t have to give my life up. But, that’s not love. That’s treating God like a prostitute-using Him to feel good about our situations, then moving on with our lives.

Well, Jordone…Where does it say that smoking weed is a sin?

Galatians 5:19-21 warns against sorcery. Sorcery is the Greek word for pharmakeia. That’s actually where we get the English word pharmacy. The primary meaning of pharmakeia is “the use or the administering of drugs.”

Let’s be clear…this post is not about judging anyone, it’s to help people.

I was so naive before God..simply because I had no one telling me the truth. I let my problems lead to weed. Then, I let weed lead to sex. It was a constant pattern of using drugs and sex to cover up my insecurities. I was using weed and sex in a place where God needed to be. I’m grateful to now know the freedom of abstinence until marriage and a drug free life. Now, I want to help others so that they know the same.

Let’s understand God according to Who He is, not our own desires. Anytime God asks you to leave something it’s because it’s taking place of the better He has for you. Period. (Additional information on this topic is below..Please check out the youtube video..it changed my life!)
